Explore the hidden beauty "Sri Lanka"

I was planning a vacation for my sister-in-law  for her 10th Anniversary.  Being there 10th Anniversary I had to plan something special and different. Budget also had to be looked after. I was surfing the net searching for options in india and abroad. My father-in-law suggested me for Sri Lanka. I was little skeptical about it as Sri Lanka is a less developing country. Even then he asked me to surf and as I began my research I was shocked to see that it is a wonderful tourist destination with stunning landscapes, pristine beaches, abundant wildlife, tea-estates, botanical gardens, waterfalls, cultural heritage, Buddhist temples all in one place.

The main destinations in Sri Lanka are shown in the map below.




You would require a minimum of 10-12 days to explore the place.

Rice and curry is the local food.

Sri lanka is known for Blue Sapphires and Red Rubies.


The must see attractions are situated in different cities connected with each other in Sri Lanka. Each place has something unique to explore. Let me give you a brief snapshot about what Sri Lanka has to offer you as a unique travel destination.




Colombo -  is the capital and city center. It is known for the busy markets and bazaars of Pettah.

Nuwara Eliya -  known for its wide spread tea-plantations. Also you can visit Hill Club, Golf Course and Lake Gregory.


Excursions –

Horton Plains – Highest plateau in Sri Lanka. This place is for nature lovers with grass covered plains, the residence of several wild but harmless animals and many species of birds. Popularly known as WORLD’S END – an absolutely breathtaking sight.



You can also visit the Sinharaja Rain Forest – designated as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Adam’s Peak is the mountain held to be the sacred footprint of Buddha.

           
Anuradhapura – is a historical site. It is an ancient city with monuments of Sinhala civilization which flourished in the region.


Yala National Park – Variety of animals including Asian Elephants, home to variety of birds, crocodiles and has the largest population of leopards.



Sigiriya – There is a Lion Rock which is 200 meter high citadel the site of Sri Lanka’s royal capital and palace. People usually climb the rock for spectacular views of the vast green countryside from the top. It is often acknowledged as the eighth wonder of the world.


Elephant Orphanage  at Pinnawale – Here you can view feeding of baby elephants using milk bottles and bathing them.


Arugam Bay (Beach) – is on the east coast where tsumani hits.



Udawalawe National Park


Bentota Island – is well known for its chic boutique hotels and for turtle hatchery.




Adventure sports – like Snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing, white water rafting, kayaking and canoeing can be explored.

Polonnaruwa – is a city of ancient ruins.

Mirissa Beach – for whale and Dolphin watching.



Dambulla  - is known for its cave temples. It is a cave turned into a rock temple.
